Intelliseek has launched a new tool called BlogPulse for analysis of the blog space. It features a search engine and trending tools. This looks like the first of these that we will see coming into the market to assist in discovery and tracking of trends in the blogging community. Their Showcase Page details some research work that will be brought out soon.
We have come upon the time where we will see a lot of the ideas in Information Retrieval that have been in research labs start coming out as services on the web. This is a feature rich age were will will hopefully get some good innovation in the field turning up to make life easier for us. I think it's great... hopefully things will get good enough that I'll be able to find a reliable Auto Shipper instead of searching on Google and coming up with a bunch of link farms.
BlogPulse is the first of these I've seen that has an attempt at doing trend analysis of blogs and I'm sure we will see others coming out.
Another company that is throwing together something different is Ujiko. I haven't yet found it to be useful, but it's taking a step towards personlized search like A9.
