Pre-orders for the XBOX 360 have been gone for months. The only places taking pre-orders now are doing so for units that will ship next year.

Today Circuit City must have decided they wanted to melt their web servers and/or see what happens when they get a DOS attack. At around 11:15am PST they began selling an unknown quantity of XBOX bundles. These were the good kind of bundle too, where you can just get the system and a couple of decent games. Both the premium and the core (no HD, no wireless) systems were available and this caused madness. Within seconds their servers started going down, then up, then down again.

I’m not sure when they finally sold out, but they did by the time I was done watching Harry Potter. These units are going to arrive to gamers between 11/22 and Dec 6. Now if you really want one badly you can risk it on eBay or one of the midnight madness events. My recommendation for midnight madness is to start lining up at an hour that you would consider insane. Each store is getting only a few units.
