Phantom Mac

like I’ve said before, I’ve wanted a Mac ever since their rebirth with OS 10, so long that the thought of owning one resides in the portion of my mind that is reserved for fantasy. My desire for a Mac sits with other objects that are beautiful but I have no immediate use for like an Aston Martin, a Wacom tablet, or a Kurta. It’s just not something my brain thinks is going to happen.

Now Apple is determined to make sure it stays that way. After the required 72 hours of “don’t bother us please, while we look into your missing order”, they have now escalated the incident. I have no idea what that means, but I’m hoping they’ve come to realize what Fedex already knows, they never shipped it to me.

Mac Mini saga… pt . 3

I got a package from Apple yesterday. They noticed that I might not have gotten iLife ’05 with my order so they sent a copy to me. That’s wonderful, if only they had sent my the computer so I could use it… still no word on my Mac Mini.

I gave them another call yesterday and was rudely told that there was nothing they could do. It had not been 72 hours since they started looking for it, so I should just wait.

Fedex on the other hand, did a look up by address and they don’t have any record of a package from Apple being shipped here.

Having a Mac, continues to be some sort of fantasy, just now I actually software for it.

Mac Mini saga…

That’s right it’s a saga now.

My Mac Mini shipped on the 19th. That’s what I believe because the Apple Store told me so. Apple’s customer service folks also believe that.

We all believed that for a while, now we don’t know. Apple has no idea where to find my Mini and neither do I. It appears to be lost.
Now I can’t get a refund until Apple’s team determines the computer to be completely lost.
I would have been better off not pre-ordering one and then I could have picked one up in the store on Saturday. Assuming they declare it to be lost and they issue a refund, should I then go purchase something as complicated as a computer from a company that can’t even take an order and ship it out to a customer?

ship already…

I’m still waiting on my Mac Mini to show up in Fedex’s system. It shipped on 19th and now I check twice a day to see what asian country is going to be it’s origin.

I guess it doesn’t matter too much. Since Saturday, I’ve had no internet connection at home which has given me time to do some “research” on Pro Evolution Soccer 4. I’ll be turning out a feature probably on monday with my impressions.

My first Mac

I ordered my first Mac yesterday. The $599 Mac Mini with 512MB of ram +bluetooth and wireless.

Hopefully it will hold up and hopefully it’s not a piece of junk they rushed out the door. You could lose a lot of potential converts like that.

I have nothing in particular I want to do with it, as I’ve regularly admited for the past 3 years every time I think about buying the latest machines from Apple. Not having a reason has never actually kept me from buying their shiny toys, it’s only been price. I think I’ve even told them that before.

There was a period after Apple launched their switch campaign where they solicited pc users to tell them why they weren’t going to switch. I told them there was only 1 reason I didn’t switch, it was simply the cost of their product. It had nothing to do with me not knowing if their machines were stable or not knowing if I could check email or use office. It was all about price.

Now they have a Mac that’s affordable enough for someone who already has 4 other machines. I really want to like the little Mac and I really want to like their colorful applications and their oh so pretty operating system. Ever since OS X was released, I’d periodically stop in an Apple store and just open up a shell and maybe edit a text file in vi and just stare at their beautifully antialiased fonts. It just holds so much promise. Hopefully it won’t let me down.
